Bangtown Timebomb

Don’t be confused by the tongue-tiedness of the band name. It’s actually an homage to the wonderful city of Bangor, and it’s some pretty good fodder for artwork, too. With that said, this Rock group with a headbanging infusion of Punk Rock is worth it.

Created by Sarah Nickerson (vocals) and James Nickerson (guitar) in 2013, they added Jeff Prymowicz (drums), Brandon “The Shirtless” Ryder (bass), and the ever lovely Matt Chabe (guitar).

It all starts with their self-invoked philosophy: “No worry, no wimps, and no mediocrity”. It’s safe to say that I would not survive in this band. While I can hold my own in the shuck and jive contest, I am by far the wimpiest person I know. I’ve watched videos of these guys perform, and they don’t mess around! They’re bad ass, and they really do know how to rock out and have a good time. Not just with each other, but with their fans, too. It’s fun to watch them interact with their crowd. It’s obvious that everyone really seems to be enjoying themselves.

Now down to brass tacks, Sarah’s vocals are, in my opinion, what runs this band. Her voice is a meld of Gwen Stefani, Joan Jett and Pat Benatar. The rest of the band is tight. Very tight. And they have a lot of fun with each other on stage. And from what I’ve read on their websites they plan on changing it all up in the next era of their music, which I find very intriguing. These guys have a lot of potential. I don’t think they’ve hit their stride yet, but I don’t think that means they’ve hit the top yet, either. I want to see more from them. I want to see how versatile they can be. I’d really like to see them try something new, and stray away from their comfort zone. I also think that perhaps “The Shirtless” should become “The Shirt”.

Currently they’re involved in the New England Music Awards competition. They’re up for best in state, and I think they have a real chance at wining, people. So let’s put our good vibes out there, and send em out into the world. And by the ‘world’ I mean keep them in New England. Let’s not get crazy, or anything.
