Meghan Clark-Country Girl Wonder

Alright. I will be the first one to admit that I am really not a big fan of country music, but as I am trying to represent a wide array of local music here I suppose that means that country deserves to have its moment, too. So if a country music act is going to be featured in this blog its going to be a good one, and I think I’ve found someone who fits the bill: Meghan Clark.

Now people, Meghan Clark is interesting. Yes, she’s local (kind of)-from good ole Calais, ME-and is now a Nashville, TN recording artist. But here’s the kicker: she is only 14 years old. Yeah. Blows my mind, too. She won the 2013 Maine Savings Bank Downeast Idol, which is apparently a thing, and since then her very young career has rocketed right off the ground. Last fall she released a 7 song EP. All songs co-written by Beau Fuller from Nashville, TN-who also produced the project at Beaird Music Group. Since then she has performed the “National Anthem” at the Maine Statehouse before a legislative session.

Her genre is classified as country/pop, and after listening to her EP that is exactly what it is. There is something else mixed into it, though. A smooth, bouncy, beach vibe. Think Jason Mraz, or early John Mayer. Mostly think fedora hat. But definitely Pop music. I think my favorite thing about Meghan Clark is her voice. Listening to her you would never guess that she is 14. Her voice is so mature, and full. They way she uses it and has control of it. You can feel that it’s natural. You can feel that it’s her life source.

Her EP is mainstream, basic, obvious, innocent-but undoubtedly catchy. It isn’t that she is particularly special, or different from anyone else, but more that she’s talented. Talented in the purest sense of the word. And at only 14, she has a whole world of music out there ahead of her to dive into and explore. I can see her going places and doing great things.

So if you would like to see Meghan Clark being awesome, you can. Saturday March 28th at the High Tide Restaurant and Lounge in Brewer, ME at 8:00 PM. Be there!
