Jazzy John Nowak

That’s not really his stage name. It’s just fun to say.

Anywho. John Nowak, from (moved to, currently lives in) Bangor, ME, has been performing professionally for over 50 years. In addition to his silky smooth tenor vocals, he also plays the trumpet. In the last few years he has created a large presence within the Bangor area, and residents and tourists alike gather to see him perform.

Back in my hostessing days at Woodman’s Bar & Grill in Orono, I had the pleasure to see John Nowak perform. His gleeful stage presence, and bouncy voice make for an enjoyable time. In addition, he never goes without his amazing band with whom he knows how to share the stage. There is nothing worse than a jazz singer who doesn’t know how to get out the way. Each musician gets ample solo time, as John looks on in admiration. These guys are tight.

Though he may not have the lower vocal register of a crooner like Bing Crosby, or Frank Sinatra, that in no way means he doesn’t have the soul. It’s alive and well, and you can hear it on his latest recording “Once More With Feeling”.

So go see him. Tonight! He’ll be performing: John Nowak Sextet (that’s a silly word) at the Hollywood Slots Hotel and Raceway @ 8PM. It’s 21+ only, so if you can you should be there to groove along with John.
